In Wilmington, Delaware, in the heart of the picturesque and historic Brandywine Valley, the Hotel du Pont is as rich in history as it is in
atmosphere. The twelve-story Italian Renaissance hotel was commissioned by DuPont Company president Pierre S. du Pont. Pierre Samuel du Pont was an American entrepreneur. He was president of the E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company from 1915 to 1919, and served on its Board of Directors until 1940. He also managed General Motors for some time.
The hotel opened in 1913, after a two-and-half year labor of love by French and Italian craftsmen who carved, gilded, and painted this exceptional story to life. From the lavish splendor of the hotel lobby, to the shimmering majesty of the Gold Ballroom, every hue and detail speaks of a thoughtful eye and a gracious mind.
